Men's Golf Sixth at MIAA Jamboree - Remains in Second Place in Overall

MENS' GOLF
MARSHALL, MI - The Calvin men’s golf team placed sixth at an MIAA Jamboree
hosted by Albion on Thursday at the Medalist Golf Club but the Knights remain
in second place in the overall standings with just one league outing left to
play.
Calvin recorded a team score of 324 strokes on Thursday, two strokes behind
Trine University. With one MIAA Jamboree left to play, Trine trails Calvin by
12 strokes in the overall standings. Albion is in fourth place, 18 strokes
behind Calvin while Adrian is in fifth place, 20 strokes behind the Knights.
Hope recorded a team score of 309 on Thursday and now holds a 29 stroke lead
over Calvin heading into the final round of play, scheduled for next Monday at
the Wuskowhan Players Club with Hope serving as host.
Albion took first place at Thursday's Jamboree with a score of 300.
Calvin’s top individual on Thursday was senior Jon Kuiper (Grand
Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a 77 that was good for ninth place.
Freshman Dave Sarkipato (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) was close behind
with a 79 while junior Eric Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS)
had an 81. Rounding out Calvin’s finishers were junior Jess Hendriksma (Grand
Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with an 87 and freshman Ben Kuiper (Grand
Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with an 88.
Zach Benedict of Albion and Mark McLaughlin of Albion shared medalist honors
with rounds of 73.
In the individual overall standings, Calvin's Jon Kuiper is second place with
an average of 74.1 strokes-per-round, trailing Hope's Charlie Olson who has an
average of 73.8. Hendriksma is currently tied for eighth (76.0) while Sarkipato
is currently in 10th (76.4).
