Audio Interview With Calvin Steeplechaser Nate DeHaan;
Tyler Berger Receives All-Mideast Region Baseball Honors

TRACK AND FIELD

This weekend, Calvin College senior Nate DeHaan will compete in the 3,000
meter steeplechase at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
DeHaan is seeded eighth with a time of 9:08.26 and will join teammate Aaron
Goodman in the race. A year ago, DeHaan finished 12th in the steeplechase at
the national meet, despite losing a shoe in the opening lap.

The Calvin Sports Information Department recently caught up with DeHaan to
talk about the upcoming national meet and his Calvin career. Listen to the

BASEBALL

Calvin College freshman Tyler Berger has been named to the Division III
All-Mideast Region third team by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School,
Berger took over the starting job in centerfield this spring for the Knights
and batted a team-leading .400 with 31 runs scored and 31 runs batted in. He
also belted four home runs, 10 doubles and two triples for a slugging
percentage of .626. In the field, Berger was stellar, committing just two
errors in 72 chances for a fielding percentage of .971.

Berger’s batting average ranks eighth on the Calvin single-season list. His
season hit total of 46 ranks 10th on the all-time Calvin single-season list
while his runs scored total ranks eighth and his RBI total 10th.

Berger helped Calvin finish 23-17 overall this spring as the Knights hit the
20-win plateau for the second straight year and for the sixth time overall.
Berger also helped the Knights take second place in the final MIAA standings
with a 20-8 league mark. For his efforts, Berger was named to the All-MIAA
first team.
