Tennis Teams Close Out Orlando Trips With Victories;
Baseball To Open MIAA season on Saturday Against Kalamazoo;
Softball Closes Out Spring Trip to Tucson With Split

MEN'S TENNIS
Calvin 7, Lawrence 2
Luther 6, Calvin 3

ORLANDO, FL -- The Calvin men's tennis team closed out its spring trip to Florida with a 7-2 victory over Lawrence University (WI) on Friday to improve to 6-2 on the year. On Thursday, Calvin suffered a 6-3 defeat to Luther (IA) in a meeting of regionally-ranked teams as Calvin entered the match ranked 11th in the Central Region while Luther came in ranked 12th. In the loss to Luther, Calvin picked up victories at No. 1 singles from senior Marcus Zeilstra (Oakbrook, IL) and senior Steve DeMaagd (Calvin Christian HS) at No. 2 singles but the Norse claimed wins in the remaining four singles flights. Calvin's No. 1 doubles team of Zeilstra and DeMaagd also picked up a win the loss.

Calvin returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Alma at 4:00 p.m.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

ORLANDO, FL -- The Calvin women's tennis team split its final two matches of its spring trip, falling to regionally-ranked Luther 6-3 on Thursday and defeating Hunter (NY) 9-0 on Friday. The match against Luther featured a pair of regionally-ranked teams as Luther came in ranked 13th in the ITA Central Region rankings while Calvin came in ranked 15th.

Sophomore Melissa Oosterhouse (Grand Rapids Christian HS) claimed a win at No. 1 singles against Luther, winning in straight sets. Calvin's other two points came in doubles with juniors Rachel Strikwerda (Holland Christian HS) and Jill VanVeen (Grand Rapids Christian HS) winning at No. 2 doubles and juniors Rachel DeGroot (Lombard, IL) and Elisabeth Geenen (Holland Christian HS) winning at No. 3 doubles.

Calvin returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Hope for a 4:00 p.m. match.

Calvin will head into the twinbill with an overall record of 3-7. On Thursday, Calvin closed out its spring trip to Phoenix, Arizona, with a 13-3 loss to the University of Chicago.

SOFTBALL

The Calvin softball team will open up its MIAA campaign on Monday when it hosts Saint Mary's at 3:00 p.m. The doubleheader will be broadcast via Stretch Internet at: http://secure.stretchinternet.com/demo/games.php?user=calvin&o=cal_stamp

Calvin will carry an overall record of 2-9 into the twinbill. On Thursday, Calvin closed out its spring trip to Tucson, Arizona, with a 9-3 win over Taylor University and a 4-3 loss to St. Olaf.
