CALVIN CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS RECEIVE ALL-ACADEMIC HONORS FROM USTFCCA;

The Calvin College men’s and women’s cross country teams have once again
received All-Academic Team honors from the United States Track and Field Cross
Country Coaches Association of America.

To be honored as an All-Academic Cross Country Team, Division III schools
needed a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.1. The Calvin men’s cross country
team posted a cumulative team grade point average of 3.381 while the Calvin
women’s cross country team posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.568.

Both teams were led by head coach Brian Diemer and assisted by Al Hoekstra,
Nancy Meyer, Rick Otte, Laura Scholma and Robert Hyde.
Both teams have now received the honor for more than 13 consecutive years.

In addition, three members of the Calvin men’s cross country team received
individual All-Academic Honors while four members of the Calvin women’s cross
country team were so honored.

To earn Division III All-Academic individual honors, runners had to
maintain a cumulative GPA of at 3.5 or higher and compete at an NCAA
III Regional meet.

Receiving All-Academic accolades from the men’s were sophomore Jake
Christiansen (New Ipswich, NH) and seniors Jed Christiansen (Greenville, PA and
Erik Van Kampen (Elmurst, IL).

On the women’s side, seniors Kelly Edwards (Grand Blanc) and Calah Schlabach
(St. Michaels, AZ) received all-academic honors as did juniors Mary Tolsma
(Hawthorne, NJ) and Nicole Farr (Wheaton, IL).

This past fall, both Calvin cross country teams captured MIAA and Great Lakes
Regional titles with the Calvin men winning the MIAA for the 22nd consecutive
year while the Calvin women won the MIAA for the third straight year and for
the 20th time in the last 21 years.

At the Great Lakes Regional hosted by Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio,
Jed Christiansen took first place to receive Great Lakes Regional Athlete of
the Year honors while Schlabach took fifth in the women’s regional race.
