Women's Basketball Tripped Up By Warhawks
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Wisconsin-Whitewater 67, Calvin 53
DAYTONA BEACH, FL -- A 13-1 deficit was too much for Calvin to overcome as the Knights played catch-up basketball throughout a 67-53 defeat to fifth-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater Tuesday afternoon in the Land of Magic Classic.
Ranked fifth in the most recent D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, Wisconsin-Whitewater (11-1) jumped out to a 13-1 lead in the opening minutes of the game. Calvin (6-4) clawed back to within six at 16-10 with a quick 9-3 run and later trailed 31-25 at halftime.
Wisconsin-Whitewater outscored Calvin 9-2 in the opening four minutes of the second half however and the Knights were never able to get closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Calvin was led in defeat by Marcia Harris (Grand Rapids Christian HS) with 14 points while senior Sarah Partridge (East Lansing HS) had nine points. Wisconsin-Whitewater was led by Tiffany Morton with 14 points and 19 rebounds as the Warhawks outboarded Calvin 49-33.
Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Alma for a 3:00 p.m. MIAA contest.
