WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Albion 77, Calvin 75
ALBION—A late second half comeback effort was not enough to keep the Calvin
women’s basketball team from dropping a 77-75 decision at Albion Saturday
afternoon in an MIAA contest.
Calvin nearly overcame a 13-point deficit in the final four-and-a-half minutes
but a potential game-winning three-pointer by senior Sarah Partridge (East
Lansing HS) with six seconds left was just over the mark.
Partridge connected on a three-ball with 45 seconds left to bring the Knights
within two. The triple capped a 14-3 Calvin run.
Albion (4-3 overall, 1-2 MIAA) used a 14-4 run late in the first half to take
control of the contest. The Briton burst came with the game tied 24-24 and
helped Albion gain a 44-32 halftime lead.
Calvin (5-3 overall, 1-2 MIAA) placed four players in double-digits in scoring
led by senior Marcia Harris (Grand Rapids Christian HS) with 19 points while
Partridge and junior Brook Van Eck (Lowell HS) had 14 points apiece. Junior
Amber Benthem (McBain Christian HS) chipped in with 10 points.
Calvin was unable to contain Albion freshman guard Nicole Dennis who exploded
for 32 points on 12 of 18 shooting.
Albion also held a 36-28 rebounding advantage.
