WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Calvin College freshman Rebecca Kamp has received two of the highest honors
awarded by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. A native of Orland
Park, Illinois, Kamp has been named the AVCA Division III National Freshman of
the Year and also an AVCA First Team Division III All-American.

Kamp will be honored with both awards at the NCAA III Championships tomorrow
evening on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington,
Illinois.

A graduate of Chicago Christian High School, Kamp is the first individual in
Calvin history to receive AVCA Division III Freshman of the Year honors. She is
also the first freshman in Calvin history to receive AVCA Division III
All-American honors.

A 6-1 middle-hitter, Kamp was a two-time AVCA Division III National Player of
the Week this fall and was recently named the most valuable player and freshman
of the year in the MIAA. In addition, she was named to the AVCA Division III
Great Lakes All-Region team and was named the Great Lakes Regional Freshman of
the Year.

Heading into NCAA III Tournament competition last week, Kamp was ranked second
nationally in kills-per-set, fifth in hitting percentage and 18th in
blocks-per-set.

Kamp finished the 2008 season with an attack percentage of .400 and a
kills-per-set average of 4.87 establishing new Calvin single-season records in
both categories. During the year, Kamp finished with 20 kills or more in a
match 11 times including a season-best 30-kill effort in a September 27 match
against Adrian.

Kamp helped the Knights finish 26-5 this fall with Calvin finishing second in
the final MIAA standings with a 14-2 conference record. The Knights also
entered the AVCA Division III Top 25 rankings early in the season and entered
the NCAA III Tournament last week ranked 12th. Calvin concluded its season last
Thursday with a four-set loss to Wisconsin-Whitewater. The tournament
appearance was Calvin's 18th overall and its fifth straight.

Van Eck, a junior from Lowell (Lowell HS), didn’t miss a shot in the
Knights’ 64-49 season-opening win over Madonna. Van Eck connected on all
eight of her shots from the field and was 3-of-3 from the foul line in scoring
a career-high 20 points, while playing just 23 minutes. She also grabbed four
rebounds and added four steals.

Calvin returns to action on Friday when it faces Elmhurst University in the
first round of the Wisconsin Lutheran Dunn’s Sporting Goods Tip-Off
