Women's Cross Country Team Ranked Second Heading into National Meet - Men
Ranked Fourth
Saturday Swim Team Recap From Wayne State

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

The Calvin women’s cross country team will head into this week’s NCAA III
Championships ranked number-two while the Calvin men’s cross country team
will head in ranked fourth.

Middlebury (VT) takes over the top spot in this week’s national women’s
(NCAA III) poll as the Panthers received six of a possible first place votes
after winning the New England regional on Saturday. Calvin picked up the
remaining two first place votes after winning the Great Lakes regional on
Saturday with 42 points.

The Calvin women had been ranked number-one in the last five polls. Meanwhile,
the Calvin remain ranked fourth. Cortland State of New York continues to be the
top ranked team as the Red Dragons claimed all eight first place votes in this
week’s poll.

North Central (IL) is ranked second while Wisconsin-LaCrosse is ranked third.
This past Saturday, the Calvin men’s cross country team captured the Great
Lakes regional title for a 13th consecutive year. The Knights took first place
with 37 points.

Saturday’s NCAA III Championships will be hosted by Hanover College in
Hanover, Indiana. The men’s race is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. with the
women’s race to follow at noon.

MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING

DETROIT -- The Calvin men's and women's swimming and diving teams dropped dual
meets in a triangular hosted by Wayne State on Saturday. In the men's
competition, Calvin was defeated by Wayne State 173-58 and by Denison 203-35.
In the women's competition, Calvin was defeated by Wayne State 170-71 and by
Denison 164-79.

Highlights for the Calvin men included:

*A third place swim by Ross Battoclette, Jon Herrema, Kurt VanAllsburg and
Matt Bolles in the 400 freestyle relay (3:25.92).

*A fifth place swim by Battoclette in the 1000 freestyle (10:37.60).

*An eighth place finish by VanAllsburg in the 50 freestyle (23.37).

*A seventh place finish by Dennis Steenbergen on the one-meter board (179.85)
and a sixth place finish on the three-meter board (192.35).

*A seventh place finish by Ethan Tatum (51.02) in the 100 freestyle with
Herrema eighth (52.15).

*A seventh place finish by Greg Gorham in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.60) with
Chris Shepperly eighth 2:37.06).

Highlights for the Calvin women included:

*A third place finish by Monica Bressler, Maggie Vail, Julie Wolfe and Cara
VanWoerkom in the 400 medley relay (4:08.14).

*A sixth place finish by Libby Veldkamp (11:21.02) in the 1000 freestyle.

*A third place by Cara VanWoerkom in the 50 freestyle (25.42).

*A fourth place finish by Emily Roberts in the 400 IM (4:53.63).

*A first place finish by Erica Deur in the one-meter diving competition
(254.50) and a third place on the three-meter board (239.85).

*A third place finish by Jeena Velzen on the one-meter board (214.55) and a
sixth place finish on the three-meter board (202.60).

*A fifth place finish by Casey Herman on the three-meter board (204.95) and
one-meter board (205.10).

*A fifth place finish by Bressler in the 200 backstroke (2:19.77) and a sixth
place finish by Briana VandenEnde (2:19.89).

*A second place finish by Vail in the 200 backstroke (2:28.11).

*A third place finish by Kendra Kinzer, Laura Price, Julie Wolfe and
VanWoerkom in the 400 freestyle relay (3:43.57).

Both teams return to action on December 6 when they compete at the Eastern
Michigan Invitational.
