Calvin Fall Sports Teams Headed to NCAA III Tournament Play
VOLLEYBALL TEAM RECEIVES AT-LARGE BID
The Calvin women's volleyball team has received an at-large bid to the NCAA III Tournament which opens later this week. Calvin (26-4) will travel to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh to face Wisconsin-Whitewater (29-9) in a first round match on Thursday. A time for Thursday's match has not yet been determined. Like Calvin, Wisconsin-Whitewater also received an at-large (Pool C) bid to the NCAA III Tournament. The Warhawks compete in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Other first round matchups in the eight-team regional have Carthage (30-4) facing St. Norbert (30-3), Heidelberg (30-7) facing Hope (26-6) and Lakeland (25-10) facing host Wisconsin-Oshkosh (37-2).
Calvin will be making its 18th appearance in the NCAA III Tournament including its fifth straight. The Knights are 19-19 all-time in NCAA III Tournament play.
Match times for this weekend's eight-team regional will be announced later today.
WOMEN'S SOCCER TO HOST FOUR-TEAM REGIONAL
The Calvin women's soccer team will host a four-team NCAA III regional this Friday and Saturday. Joining Calvin (17-2-1) in the regional field will be the College of Mount St. Joseph (14-4-2), the University of Chicago (12-5-1) and Wittenberg (11-3-6).
Calvin will face Mount St. Joseph in one first round game with Chicago and Wittenberg set to meet in the other first round match.
Start times for both games have not yet been determined.
Calvin will be making its sixth overall appearance in the NCAA III Tournament including its fourth straight.
This will mark the third time Calvin has hosted NCAA III Tournament play in women's soccer. Calvin also hosted a four-team regional in 1997 and a second round game in 2006.
Calvin advanced to this year's NCAA III Tournament by winning the MIAA title and gaining the league's automatic bid to the national tournament. Wittenberg advanced by winning the North Coast Athletic Conference title and the league's automatic bid while Mount St. Joseph did the same in winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament title. The University of Chicago advanced to NCAA III Tournament play by receiving an at-large (Pool C) bid. The Maroons are members of the University Athletic Association.
Starting times for the weekend games will be announced later today.
MEN'S SOCCER TRAVELS TO DELAWARE, OH FOR NCAA III TOURNAMENT PLAY
The Calvin men's soccer team will travel to Delaware, Ohio, this weekend to compete in a four-team regional hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. Calvin will face Carnegie-Mellon University - a Pool C (at-large) qualifier to this year's tournament. Carnegie-Mellon (14-2-1) competes in the University Athletic Association.
Host Ohio Wesleyan (16-4-1) will face Susqhehanna (13-6-1) in the other first round game of the weekend regional.
Calvin will be making its eighth trip to the NCAA III Tournament including its fourth trip in the last five years. This will also mark the third time in the last four years the Knights will compete in NCAA III Tournament play at Ohio Wesleyan. A year ago, the Knights were eliminated by John Carroll University 1-0 in a first round game at Ohio Wesleyan.
Game times for this weekend's regional will be announced later today.
