Rebecca Kamp Named AVCA Division III Player of the Week;
Volleyball Team Ranked 15th in AVCA Division III Top 25 poll;
Women's Soccer Team Ranked 14th in NSCAA Division III Top 25 poll
VOLLEYBALL
Rebecca Kamp, a freshman middle blocker for Calvin College, has been named the
Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week.
She earned the award after leading the Knights to a 4-1 record last week,
which included upsets over two nationally-ranked opponents at the Wittenberg
Border Battle Tournament. In the Knights 3-0 win over Trine, Kamp hit .467 with
16 kills in 30 attempts and two errors, while adding nine digs, one ace, one
solo block and two block assists in the win.
She followed that up by collecting 12 kills, three digs, two solo blocks and
four block assists in Calvin’s sweep of Hiram. After racking up 24 kills in a
3-1 set back to Mt. St. Joseph, Kamp scored 20 kills, two digs, two aces, three
solo blocks and four block assists in a 3-1 win over then-No. 10 Ohio Northern.
She closed out her week with a 14-kill, eight-dig, one-ace, two solo-block and
one block-assist performance in a three-set upset of then-No. 5 Wittenberg.
For the week, Kamp, who was named to the Wittenberg Border Battle
All-Tournament Team, hit .411, while averaging 5.06 kills, 1.65 digs, 1.41
blocks and 6.2 points per set.
This marks the fourth time an athlete from Calvin has been awarded the Sports
Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week award.
Other individuals from Calvin to receive the honor are Molly Krikke (2007),
Jill Harkema (1996) and Erika VanStralen (1995).
Ranked 15th in the most-recent AVCA Division III Top 25 poll, The Knights are
coached by Amber Warners.
CALVIN VOLLEYBALL TEAM RANKED 15th IN AVCA DIVSION III TOP 25 POLL
The Calvin women's volleyball team has moved up three spots in the latest AVCA
Division III Top 25 poll. The Knights are ranked 15th in this week's poll after
being ranked 18th a week ago. Calvin opened the year ranked 21st in the
pre-season poll and then moved up to 18th last week.
Calvin is coming off a week where it posted a 4-1 record including victories
over 10th-ranked Ohio Northern and fifth-ranked Wittenberg.
Now 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the MIAA, the Knights are scheduled to travel to
Alma on Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. conference match. On Friday, Calvin will host
17th-ranked Hope at 6:30 p.m. The match will serve as the home opener for the
Knights. Calvin will play its home matches this fall inside the Huizenga Tennis
and Track Center.

WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM RANKED 14th IN NSCAA DIVISION III TOP 25 POLL
The Calvin women's soccer team has moved up two spots in this week's National
Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III Top 25 poll. The Knights are
ranked 14th in this week's poll after being ranked 16th a week ago.
Calvin opened the year ranked 15th and then slipped one spot last week.
Calvin is scheduled to host defending national champion Wheaton (IL) tomorrow
afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Calvin's Zuidema Field. Wheaton (3-1-0) will enter
the match ranked 11th.
