Softball Falls Twice at Illinois Wesleyan Invitational
Men's Tennis Splits at GLCA Tourney;
Men's Golf Fifth at AC Eddy Invitational
SOFTBALL
BLOOMINGTON, IL -- Calvin dropped a pair of games at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on Friday, falling to Hope in a non-conference game 6-5 in eight innings and then falling to host Illinois Wesleyan 9-1. Junior Kristin Folkerts (Grand Rapids Christian HS) took the loss in game one while sophomore Mandy Johnson (Northpointe Christian HS) suffered the defeat in game two. In the loss to Illinois Wesleyan, senior Sam Ehlert (Rockford HS) had two of Calvin's five hits. Freshman Jacqueline Kirkman (Salem, OH) also belted her second home run of the spring with the roundtripper coming in the second inning.
Calvin is now 7-17 on the year. The loss to Hope was Calvin's second loss in extra-innings this week as the Knights also dropped a 4-2 decision at Adrian in nine innings on Tuesday.
Calvin is scheduled to face Illinois Wesleyan again on Saturday at noon and will then meet the University of Chicago at 4:00 p.m.
MEN'S TENNIS
WOOSTER, OH -- Calvin split a pair of matches on Friday at the GLCA Invitational at the College of Wooster, falling to nationally-ranked Kenyon 6-0 and then bouncing back to defeat regionally-ranked Wooster 5-0. The Knights are now 7-5 overall. Calvin entered the weekend ranked 12th in the Central Region rankings while Kenyon came in ranked seventh overall and third in the region. Wooster entered the weekend ranked 18th in the Central Region.

MEN'S GOLF
ANGOLA, IN -- Calvin placed fifth in a field of eight teams at the AC Eddy Invitational hosted by Tri-State University on Friday, posting a team score of 326. Spring Arbor won the invitational with a team score of 298.
Calvin's top golfers were freshman Jess Hendriksma (Grand Rapids Christian HS) and Eric Doezema (Grand Rapids Christian HS) who both fired rounds of 79 to tie for 14th place individually. Sophomore Jon Kuiper (Grand Rapids Christian HS) was next with a round of 82 while sophomore Kyle Harvey (Willard, OH) had an 86 and sophomore Tyler Smies (Sheboygan, WI) a 92.
Kris Bradshaw and Mike Mazzola of Spring Arbor shared medalist honors with rounds of 73.
Calvin returns to action on Monday when it competes at the 36-hole Spring Arbor Invitational.
