Harris and Veldhouse Receive All-MIAA Basketball Honors;
Griffin & Mantel Named to All-MIAA Second Team

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
All-MIAA Women's Basketball Teams Announced

For the third consecutive year, Calvin junior Marcia Harris has been named to
the All-MIAA first team in women's basketball. A native of Grand RapidsDustin
Smith and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Harris averaged
18.0 points and 6.3 rebounds a game this year while connecting on 54.4 percent
of her field goal attempts and 73.0 percent of her free throw tries. A 6-1
center, Harris was also credited with 41 steals and 15 blocked shots on the
year.

In conference games, Harris averaged 18.3 points a game to rank third in the
MIAA scoring race. She also finished third in the MIAA in field goal percentage
(.518), seventh in free throw percentage (.736) and eighth in steals per game
(1.75) and blocked shots per game (0.81).

During the year, Harris received MIAA Player of the Week honors after scoring
a career-high 32 points in a 65-64 victory over Adrian. She was also voted to
all tournament teams at tournaments hosted by Mount St. Joseph and
Baldwin-Wallace.

Harris currently has 1,246 points in her Calvin career and is ranked sixth on
the all-time Calvin women's basketball scoring list.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
All-MIAA Men's Basketball Teams Announced

For the third consecutive year, Calvin junior Caleb Veldhouse has been Caleb
Veldhousenamed to the All-MIAA first team in men's basketball. Named to the
All-MIAA second team from Calvin are senior Derek Griffin and sophomore John
Mantel.

A native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and a graduate of Sioux Falls Christian
High School, Veldhouse averaged a career-high 17.2 points a game while also
averaging 3.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. A 6-2 guard, Veldhouse also
connected on 42.6 percent of his three-point field goal attempts and 75.7
percent of his free throw tries. In conference play, Veldhouse averaged 16.0
points a game to rank fourth in the MIAA scoring race. He was also ranked in
the Top 10 in the MIAA in assists per game (2.86/6th place) and three-point
field goal percentage (.405, 7th place) and three-point field goals made per
game (2.14).

Veldhouse currently ranks 11th on the all-time Calvin scoring list with 1,305
points and fourth in career three-point field goals (176). Derek Griffin

Griffin is from Whitehall High School and is a graduate of Whitehall High
School. A 6-3 guard, Griffin averaged 14.8 points and 4.1 rebounds a game this
year while connecting on a team-best 73 three-point field goals. Over the
course of the year, Griffin shot 81.2 percent from the free throw line, 44.0
percent from the field and 39.0 percent from three-point range. Griffin's 73
three-point field goals this year is tied with 1992 graduate Mike LeFebre for
eighth place on the all-time Calvin single-season three-point field goal list.
A transfer from Muskegon Community College, Griffin compiled 153 three-point
baskets on 360 attempts in his two year Calvin College career, ranking sixth on
the Calvin career list for three-point field goals made and seventh in
three-point field goal percentage (.425).

Mantel is from Chelsea and is a graduate of Chelsea High School. A 6-8 John
Mantelcenter, Mantel averaged 10.4 points and 5.8 rebounds a game this year
while connecting on 43.8 percent of his field goal attempts and 73.8 percent of
his free throw tries. Mantel also finished the year with a team best 25 blocked
shots.

In conference play, Mantel finished 18th in MIAA in scoring (18.0 ppg), eighth
in rebounding (6.3 rpg), eighth in free throw percentage (.745) and tied for
fifth in blocked shots per game (0.93).
