Molly Krikke Named AVCA/Sports Imports Division III National Player of the Week
GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Calvin College senior Molly Krikke has added another
prestigious award to her decorated four-year collegiate career as the 5-11
middle-hitter has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association/Sports
Imports Division III Player of the Week. A native of Greenwich, Ohio, Krikke
averaged 5.94 kills-per-game this past week as the Knights went 5-0, improved
to 26-4 overall and wrapped up their second straight MIAA regular season title.
A graduate of South Central High School, Krikke hit .397 last week as Calvin
defeated Saint Mary's, Kalamazoo, Hanover, Albion and Anderson. In a five-game
victory over Kalamazoo Friday night, she racked up a career-high 30 kills while
hitting .354. She also tallied 23 kills in wins over Saint Mary's and Hanover.
Krikke was also named the MIAA's Player of the Week for her efforts while
senior teammate Katie Zondervan was named the MIAA's Specialty Player of the
Week.
On the year, Krikke is averaging 4.77 kills-per-game and a hitting percentage
of .397 that ranks among the national leaders in Division III. Krikke is also
averaging 1.33 blocks and 1.11 digs-per-game.
Ranked 16th in the latest AVCA Division III Top-25 poll, Calvin finished the
Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular season with a 15-1
record, giving the Knights the number-one seed and home court advantage for
this week’s MIAA Tournament.
Calvin is set to open first round MIAA Tournament play on Tuesday night at 7:00
p.m. at the Calvin Fieldhouse against either Alma or Olivet.
A year ago, Krikke was named a Division III second All-American by the AVCA and
landed a spot on the All-MIAA first team.
