Ricky Tilton Reaches Quarterfinals at ITA Regionals/Tilton-Zeilstra Reach Quarters in Doubles;
Snapper Named MIAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week in Men's Soccer;
DeGroot Named MIAA Specialty Player of the Week in Women's Volleyball

MEN'S TENNIS

KALAMAZOO -- For the second consecutive year, Ricky Tilton advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Midwest Regional tournament hosted by Kalamazoo College. Tilton advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-1 first round win over Paul Oehlerlin and followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win over David Waren in the Round of 64. In the Round of 32, he topped Lado Bakhustshivili 6-3, 6-2 and then topped Chris Hoeland 6-4, 6-4 in the semi-quarterfinals. Seeded sixth in the tournament, Tilton's run then ended with a 6-2, 6-2 to top-seeded and eventual tournament champion Jon Watts.

Also picking up first-round singles victories for Calvin were junior Marcus Zeilstra (Oak Brook, IL) and freshman Matt De Vlieger (Northpointe Christian HS).

In doubles action, Zeilstra and Tilton advanced all the way to the quarterfinals. In 2006, the same tandem advanced to the Round of 16. Calvin's double team of senior Michael Goorhouse (Holland Christian HS) and junior Andrew Rescorla (Zionsville, IN) also reached the Round of 32.

MEN'S SOCCER

For the second time in his career, Calvin College sophomore Greg Snapper has received MIAA Defensive Player of the Week honors. A native of Madison, Wisconsin, Snapper shares the award this week with Albion sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Thomas. A graduate of Madison West High School, Snapper anchored Calvin's defense from his sweeper back position to a pair of shutouts last week as the Knights defeated Olivet 4-0 and Alma 2-0. Calvin has now won three consecutive games including four of its last five with all four victories coming by way of shutout.

Calvin is now locked in a three-way tie for first place in the MIAA lead with Albion and Kalamazoo with a 3-1-0 conference record. Calvin will travel to Albion for a 4:00 p.m. contest on Wednesday. The game will be broadcast through the Albion web site at: http://media.albion.edu/sports

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

For the third time in her career, Calvin College junior Lauren DeGroot has been named the MIAA Specialty Player of the Week. A native of Tulare, California, DeGroot was credited with 61 digs this past week as the nationally-ranked Knights defeated Saint Mary's, Alma and Albion in conference matches. In the win over Alma on Wednesday, DeGroot amassed a season-high 33 digs from her libero position.

A graduate of Central Valley Christian High School, DeGroot also had a pair of service aces during the week and did not commit a service error in 31 total attempts.

Ranked 15th in the latest AVCA Division III Top-25 poll, Calvin returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Kalamazoo for a 7:00 p.m. conference match.
