Men's Golf Remains Sixth in MIAA Standings
MEN'S GOLF
MT. PLEASANT -- Calvin posted a sixth place score of 318 strokes at an MIAA outing hosted by Alma at the Bucks Run Golf Club Thursday afternoon. The outing was the fifth league outing of the year. There are three league tournaments left to play.
With the sixth place score, Calvin remains in sixth place in the overall MIAA standings, 52 strokes ahead of seventh place Kalamazoo and 42 strokes behind fifth place Tri-State.
Olivet took first place at Thursday's outing with a team score of 299, one stroke ahead of second place Hope. Olivet leads the overall team standings but has just a three-stroke lead over defending champion Hope.
In Thursday's outing, Calvin freshman Eric Doezema (Grand Rapids Christian HS) led the Knights with a round of 76 that left him tied for sixth place individually. Doezema currently stands in 13th place in the overall MIAA individual standings with an average of 78.0 strokes-per-round. Sophomore teammate Jon Kuiper (Grand Rapids Christian HS) was next for the Knights with a round of 79 that was good for 21st place. Next was freshman Jess Hendriksma (Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a round of 81 and sophomore Tyler Smies (Sheboygan, WI) and junior Brad Tindall (Vicksburg HS) with rounds of 83.
Calvin returns to action on Monday when it hosts the sixth MIAA outing. The outing will be held at the Watermark Country Club with the opening tee times set for 1:00 p.m.
