Volleyball Remains Undefeated in MIAA with Win over Olivet
Women's Golf 6th after First Round of Olivet Invitational

VOLLEYBALL

Calvin 3, Olivet 0 (30-20, 32-30, 30-18)

OLIVET -- Continuing a string of consecutive conference victories, Calvin (10-3, 5-0 MIAA) remains in first place in the conference with a victory over Olivet (2-12, 1-5 MIAA) Friday evening. The Knights took the match in three games though struggling to put the second game away.

Calvin held the uppper hand on offense with 51 kills and 45 assists to Olivet's 35 kills and 30 assists. On defense, Calvin's 74 digs and 19 blocks were closely matched by Olivet's 72 digs and 19 blocks.

Senior Kristen Kalb (Stow, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) lead Calvin with 13 kills and 13 digs, while senior Molly Krikke (Greenwich, OH/South Central) also shone both offensively and defensively with 10 kills and 8 blocks. Junior Jessica Garlick (Portage/Kalamazoo Christian) added 8 kills and 6 blocks, and sophomore Rachel DeYoung (Hudsonville/Unity Christian) contributed 7 kills. Senior setter Katie Zondervan (Lakewood, CA/Valley Christian) dished out 39 assists and had 13 digs. Leading defensively were junior Lauren DeGroot (Tulare, CA/Central Valley Christian) with 16 digs and senior Sarah Ernst (Fort Wayne, IN/Concordia Lutheran) with 12 digs.

Olivet was lead in defeat by Ellen Schulz, who had 13 kills and 11 digs and Jenessa Hicks with 28 assists and 13 digs.

Calvin will be on the road again next Tuesday, September 25, in another conference match at St. Mary's, which will begin at 6:30 p.m.

WOMEN'S GOLF

OLIVET -- After the first day of the Olivet Invitational, Calvin stands in 6th place overall with a team score of 372 strokes. The Knights stand 5 strokes behind 5th place Hope and 2 strokes ahead of 7th place Alma. Currently poised to take the invite is Ferris State with 306 strokes, a 25-stroke advantage over 2nd place Olivet.

Tied for 13th place after Round One is Calvin sophomore Emily Tuuk (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian) with 86 strokes. She is followed closely by sophomore Kelli Visser (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian) who is tied for 21st place with 89 strokes. Calvin's remaining golfers are senior Linnea Trippet (White Plains, NY/White Plains) in a tie for 38th with 97 strokes, sophomore Julienne Louters (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian) in a tie for 46th place with 100 strokes, and senior Erin Kammers (Belding/Belding) with 121 strokes, good for a tie for 61st place. Ferris' Meghan Hunter stands in sole possession of first place with 74 strokes.

The second round begins tomorrow at 8:30 a.m at the Marshall Country Club.
