Men's Golf 5th at MIAA Tournament
MEN'S GOLF
KALAMAZO -- Calvin came up with one of its top performances of the season on Thursday afternoon, posting a fifth place team score of 315 strokes at a league outing hosted by Kalamazoo at The Prairies Golf Club. The outing was the fourth league outing of the year and marked the mid-point of the fall season.
Calvin remains in sixth place in the overall MIAA team standings but did gain two strokes on fifth place Tri-State which tied for sixth with Alma on Thursday with a team score of 317. Calvin is currently 28 strokes behind Tri-State in the oveall team standings. Olivet remains in first place in the overall team standings but now leads second place Hope by just two strokes. Hope took first place at Thursday's outing with a team score of 293 strokes.
Calvin's top individual finisher on Thursday was freshman Eric Doezema (Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a round of 75 that put him in a tie for sixth place. Sophomore Tyler Smies (Sheboygan, WI) was next for the Knights with a round of 79 that that left him tied for 19th place. Rounding out Calvin's finishers were junior Brad Tindall (Vicksburg HS) with an 80, freshman Jess Hendriksma (Grand Rapids Christian HS) with an 81 and sophomore Aaron Hargett (Lake Odessa-Lakewood HS) with an 84.
Calvin is back in action next Tuesday when it competes at the Red Poling Classic at the Michigan TPC. The next MIAA outing is scheduled for next Thursday at Bucks Run Golf Club with Alma College serving as host.
