VANDERVLIET FARES WELL AT CANADIAN TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

WINDSOR, ON -- Recent Calvin College graduate Megann VanderVliet had a strong showing at the Canadian Track and Field Championships held this past weekend at the University of Windsor. At the four-day meet, VanderVliet took seventh in the shot put (42-9) and fourth in the discus (151-9). Her throw in the discus was a personal-best in a championship level meet.

A native of Oakville, Ontario, VanderVliet is now mulling offer a potential opportunity to train with Canada's Olympic throwing hopefuls in British Columbia under the guidance of Dr. Anatoly Bondarchuk. Bondarchuk was at Calvin this past week for a seminar on performance training. Bondarchuk also currently serves as a national coach with the Canadian track and field program.

VanderVliet recently concluded a Calvin track and field career that included four NCAA III (outdoor) All-America berths including three in the shot put. Her highest national finish was a third place finish in the shot put at the 2005 NCAA III Championships.
