DETERS MAKES MINOR LEAGUE ALL-START APPEARANCE
STOCKTON, CA — 2005 Calvin College graduate Jim Deters made his first
appearance in a minor league all-star game Tuesday night. Deters appeared in
the Carolina/California League All-Star Game on Tuesday and struck out the only
batter he faced.
Also a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School, Deters was a late addition
to the Carolina League All-Star roster because of an injury to one of his
teammates on the Kinston Indians who had originally been invited to the game.
The all-star game matched top players from the advanced Class A California and
Carolina Leagues. The California League All-Stars won Tuesday night's game 10-5
behind a 12-hit attack.
Deters entered the game with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and
struck out California All-Star Matt Antonelli.
Of the nine pitchers that entered the game for the Carolina League All-Stars,
Deters was one of only three to record a strikeout.
Deters will now prepare to return to action for the Kinston Indians which open
up the second half of their schedule this evening when they take on the
Lynchburg Hillcats.
Deters is currently 5-2 on the year for Kinston with a 2.25 earned run
