WEIMA/SIEBENSCHEIN RECEIVE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT IV HONORS IN AT-LARGE
DIVISION

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV teams in the men's/women's at-large divisions have been released and a pair of Calvin athletes have been so honored. Named to the men's at-large team in the college division from Calvin is senior Rafael Siebenschein Named to the women's at-large team in the college division from Calvin is senior Becky Weima.

Weima and Siebenschein now advance to the national ballot and are eligible forAcademic All-America consideration.

The college division of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program includes NCAA II, NCAA III and NAIA schools. The Academic All-District and All-America teams are selected by the College Sports Information Director's
Association of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible for nomination, an individual must be a starter or a key reserve with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20. The at-large division includes the sports of of golf, tennis, swimming, water
polo, ice hockey, field hockey and lacrosse.

Siebenschein is a native of Wurenlos, Switzerland. He graduated from Lynden Christian High School. He also graduated from Calvin last weekend with a double major of computer science and economics while carrying a 3.84 grade point average. A member of the Calvin men's tennis team, Siebenschein was a four-time second team All-MIAA selection while playing at No. 2 and No. 3 singles during his career. Siebenschein was the MIAA runner-up at No. 2 singles in 2006 and the MIAA runner-up at No. 3 singles in 2005. Thsi spring, he was 20-3 at No. 3 singles.

He is the Calvin career leader in victories with a combined won-loss total of 128-34 including a career singles mark of 66-15 and a doubles mark of 62-19. This spring, he helped the Calvin men's tennis team reach the NCAA III Tournament for the first time since 1996 as the Knights advanced to the second round. Siebenschein picked up singles win in Calvin's first and second round NCAA III Tournament matches and finished the season with a 10-match win streak.

An ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2005 and 2006, Siebenschein has also been a three-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. He was also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 1st team in 2006.

Weima hails from Caledonia and is a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian HighSchool. A four-year member of the Calvin women's swimming and diving team, Weima was graduated from Calvin this past weekend with a double major of Spanish and secondary education while carrying a 3.68 grade point average. She is making her second straight appearance on the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 1st Team.

During her four years at Calvin, Weima captured five individual national titles, winning the 200 yard freestyle three times and the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle once. Her efforts helped Calvin finish 10th at the NCAA III Championships in 2005, sixth in 2006 and fourth in 2007. The three finishes are the top three national team finishes in Calvin swimming and diving history.

A 21-time NCAA III All-American, Weima was also named the MIAA's Most Outstanding Swimmer four consecutive years and was also a four-time All-MIAA selection. In addition, she was named the Division III Swimmer of the Week
three times in her career by Collegeswimming.com. She is the NCAA III record holder in the 200 freestyle (1:49.02), and the MIAA record holder in the 50, 100, 200 and 500 freestyle events and the Calvin record holder in the 50, 100, 200, 500
and 1,000 freestyle events as well as in the 100 butterfly.

A three-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and a member of the College Swimming Coaches Association All-Academic Team last summer, Weima was recently named the recipient of the Detroit Athletic Club's Female College Athlete of the Year award.
