WEST MICHIGAN SPORTS AWARDS

Two members of the Calvin athletic program will be honored at the annual West
Michigan Sports Awards, scheduled this year for May 14 at the DeVos Place in
downtown Grand Rapids.

Calvin senior Lisa Winkle will be honored as the West Michigan Female College
Athlete of the Year while Calvin men's and women's cross country coach Brian
Diemer will be honored as the West Michigan College Coach of the Year.

Winkle and Diemer are both graduates of Grand Rapids South Christian High
School. Winkle recently completed a standout four-year basketball career that
saw her finish as Calvin's all-time leading scorer and rebounder. As a senior
this year, Winkle was a consensus Division III All-American, receiving
All-America honors from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, D3hoops.com
and Women's Division III News. A two-time MIAA MVP in basketball, Winkle was
then named the recipient of the Jostens Trophy - honoring her for her academic,
athletic and civic achievements.

Winkle is also in the midst of a terrific outdoor track and field season as she
has already qualified automatically for the NCAA III Championships in the long
jump, 400 meters and as a member of Calvin's 4x400 meter relay team.

Also a graduate of the University of Michigan, Diemer recently completed his
21st year as men's cross country coach at Calvin and his first year as its
women's cross country coach. This fall, Diemer led the Calvin men's cross
country team to its 20th consecutive MIAA title, its 10th consecutive Great
Lakes Regional crown and its fourth national title including its third in the
last four years. Diemr also led the Calvin women's cross country team to a
third place national finish as well as its 18th MIAA title in the last 19
years.

The featured speaker for the West Michigan Sports Awards will be Tony Dungy -
head coach of the Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts. The 10th annual event
will serve as a fundraiser for Mentor West Michigan.

The night will be a busy one for Calvin athletes as senior Becky Weima will be
in Detroit the same evening, receiving the Michigan Female College Athlete of
the Year Award from the Detroit Athletic Club.
