GRAND RAPIDS -- Calvin College women's basketball coach John Ross has been
named the Division III Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year by the Women's
Basketball Coaches Association.
A native of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Ross led the Calvin women's basketball team
to a 28-3 record this year and a berth in the national quarterfinals of the
NCAA III Tournament. He also led the Knights to their second MIAA regular
season title in the last four years as Calvin finished 16-0 in regular season
conference play, becoming just the second team in MIAA women's basketbal
history to record a 16-0 conference slate. Under his leadership, Calvin reached
as high as number-two in the Division III national polls this winter.
A graduate of Manitowoc Lutheran High School and of the University of
Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Ross recently completed his fourth year as head coach of the
Calvin women's basketball team. In four years as head coach, Ross has compiled
a won-loss record of 99-17 for an impressive winning percentage of .853.
Ross has produced four consecutive 20-win seasons and has led Calvin to three

III Tournament in two of the last three years.
Ross is the third Calvin coach this year to receive Great Lakes Region Coach of
the Year honors as Amber Warners was previously so honored in volleyball and
