Women's Swimming and Diving Team Sets School Record For Dual Meet Victories;
Men's Team Concludes Dual Meet Campaign with Win Over Albion
WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
The Calvin women's swimming and diving team capped off the most successful dual
meet season in school history, defeating Albion 174-114 Saturday afternoon at
Calvin's Bergsma Natatorium.
With the win, Calvin closed out its 2006-07 dual meet season with a 12-1
record, establishing a new Calvin single-season record for dual meet victories
in a season. Saturday's victory was also Calvin's sixth of the season against
an MIAA opponent without a defeat.
Calvin rolled to the win behind 11 first place performances. Senior Alex Wilson
(Ellsworth, OH) was a double-winner for Calvin, taking first place in the 200
butterfly (2:21.50) and 200 breaststroke (2:30.10) with both times season-best
efforts. Freshman Laura Price (Warren, PA) was also a double-winner for Calvin,
winning the 200 freestyle (1:59.50) and 100 freestyle (56.69).
Other individual winners for the Calvin women included freshman Alyssa Ludema
(Grand Rapids Christian ) in the 100 backstroke (1:05.61), freshman Maggie Vail
(Portage) in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.73), sophomore Julie Wolfe
(Westerville, OH) in the 50 freestyle (25.61), sophomore Jordan Scott
(Oakville, ON) in the 200 backstroke (21:6.41), junior Danielle Mitchell (Iron
Mountain) in the 100 butterfly (1:04.78) and junior Stephanie Duncan (Long
Grove, IL) in the 500 freestyle (5:25.88). Calvin's 200 medley relay team of
freshman Katie White (Grand Rapids Christian HS), freshman Barbara (Frazier)
Gluvers (Placerville, CA), Duncan and junior Kat Vinson (Kaneohe, HI) also took
first place in a time of 1:55.73.
On Friday night, Calvin secured a 129-86 victory at Saint Mary's College.
Winners for Calvin included Mitchell in the 200 freestyle (2:07.57), freshman
Tara Kloostra (Unity Christian HS) in the 200 IM (2:29.47), sophomore Erica
Deur (Holland Christian HS) on the one meter diving board, Stephanie Duncan in
the 100 butterfly (1:04.09), Maggie Vail in the 100 freestyle (56.95), senior
Alex Wilson in the 500 freestyle (5:24.90) and the Calvin quartet of Alyssa
Ludema, Julie Wolfe, freshman Jo VanderLinde (Grand Rapids Christian HS) and
freshman Emily Roberts (Dekalb, IL) in the 200 medley relay (1:59.50).
The Knights will now prepare for the MIAA Championships scheduled for February
8, 9 and 10 at the Jenison Aquatics Center.
MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
Calvin closed out its dual meet campaign with a 154-122 victory over visiting
Albion Saturday afternoon at Calvin's Bergsma Natatorium. Calvin finishes its
2006-07 dual meet campaign with a 3-9 dual meet record.
Winners for the Calvin men included freshman Kurt VanAllsburg (Grand Rapids
Christian HS) in the 100 freestyle (57.83), junior Lucas Seebeck (Grand Rapids
Christian HS) in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.32) and 200 breaststroke (2:24.56),
senior Peter Tuuk (Grand Rapids Christian HS) in the 100 freestyle (48.92) and
200 butterfly (2:07.97), senior Andrew Resseguie (Holland Christian HS) in the
50 freestyle (21.59), freshman Jon Herrema (Grand Rapids Christian HS) in the
200 backstroke (2:12.48), sophomore Keith Conrad (Wheaton, IL) in the 100
butterfly (56.19) and Calvin's quartet of senior Mark Volle (Colorado Springs,
CO), Seebeck, Herrema and VanAllsburg in the 200 medley relay with a time of
1:43.85.
The Knights will now prepare for the MIAA Championships scheduled for February
8, 9 and 10 at the Jenison Aquatics Center.
