In the first set of fall standings, Calvin had a total of 269 points built around the 100 points produced by Calvin's national championship performance in men's cross country. The Knights also placed third in women’s cross country and ninth in women's volleyball. The national championship performance by the Calvin men’s team was worth 100 points while the third place finish by its women’s cross country team was worth 85 points. Calvin’s volleyball finish counted for 64 points.

The most recent set of standings does not include the sport of football which has not yet completed its national tournament at the NCAA III level. Sports that are included in the latest set of standings include men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, women's volleyball and women's field hockey.

The final fall standings will be released sometime close to Christmas upon completion of the football season. Competition will continue with the winter sports season and finish with the conclusion of the spring sports season in May.

The U.S. Sports Academy Director's Cup is based on points earned by teams that compete in NCAA Championship events and is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Director's of Athletics (NACDA) to the best overall collegiate athletics program in the country. The NACDA Director's Cup race is held at the NCAA I, II and III levels and also for NAIA institutions.

Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA III Championship competition in up to 18 sports -- nine for men and nine for women. Each national champion receives 100 points with a national runner-up finish worth 90 points. Third place is worth 85 points and fourth place finishes count for 80 points with a sliding point scale continuing on down by order of finish.

A year ago, Calvin finished ninth in the final Division III standings with a total of 561.25 points.
Calvin is one of only eight schools to finish in the top-25 every year that the competition has been held at the NCAA III level.
