CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR DECEMBER 5, 2006
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE UPDATE
The following report is reminder that the Calvin women's basketball game
against Kalamazoo on Wednesday night (December 6) is scheduled to start at 7:30
p.m. The contest will be precedeed by an JV women's contest against Glen Oaks
Community College beginning at 5:30 p.m.
In addition, the Calvin men's basketball game against Aquinas this week is
Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Calvin Fieldhouse. Earlier schedules this
year had the game slated for Wednesday, December 6, at 8:00 p.m. but the game
was moved to Thursday, December 7, because of a schedule conflict. Also, the
JV men's basketball game scheduled to take place on Thursday against Grace
Bible College preceeding the varsity game has been cancelled. Thursday night
action will include only a varsity game between Calvin and Aquinas.
The men's basketball game against Aquinas will also serve as a celebration of
President Emeritus Dr. William Spoelhof's 97th birthday. We thank God for
leading Dr. Spoelhof to the Calvin community, for his outstanding 25-year
tenure as Calvin's president (1951-1976) and for the encouraging presence he
has been to faculty, students, staff and alumni during these "retirement"
years.
While Dr. Spoelhof's birthday is on Friday, December 8, we will be celebrating
at the Calvin men's basketball game on Thursday night against Aquinas (7:30
p.m.) in the fieldhouse.
During halftime, the "Spoelhof All-Stars" (John Primus, Larry Louters and Aaron
Winkle) will be competing against the "Spoelhof Great-Grandkids" (Willem and
Xander Schra and Noah and Abby Van Til) in the Hudsonville Ice Cream Halftime
Shootout. After that, we'll all sing "Happy Birthday" and there will be
Hudsonville Ice Cream for everyone in the house!
Join us Thursday night for this fun celebration and do wish our beloved
colleague, friend and mentor a blessed 97th birthday!
