CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR DECEMBER 1, 2006 (PART TWO)
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING COMPETE AT EASTERN MICHIGAN INVITATIONAL
YPSILANTI -- The Calvin men's and women's swim teams completed a busy day one
of action at the Eastern Michigan Invitational on Friday night.
On the men's side, top performances came from sophomore Keith Conrad (Wheaton,
IL) in the 1,650 freestyle (17:10.33), junior Joe Gluvers (Rocklin, CA) in the
200 backstroke (2:02.22), senior Andrew Resseguie (Holland Christian HS) in the
100 freestyle (47.69) and freshman John Toll (Atlanta, GA) in the 200 butterfly
(2:00.70). Calvin's 400 freestyle relay team of Andrew Resseguie, junior John
Boumgarden (Naperville, IL), Toll and Peter Tuuk (Grand Rapids Christian HS)
also had a season-best time of 3:13.56.
On the women's side, senior Becky Weima (Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a
strong night, posting a career-best time of 17:50.29 in the 1,650 freestyle.
She also led off Calvin's 400 freestyle relay with a 100 split of 52.94 that
was good for an NCAA B' cut qualifying time. Calvin's 400 freestyle relay team
also included sophomore Julie Wolfe (Westerville, OH), freshman Katie White
(Grand Rapids Christian HS) and junior Stephanie Duncan (Long Grove, IL). The
relay team posted a season-best time of 3:36.89.
Other top performances from the Calvin women included Wolfe and White posting
respective times of 54.61 and 54.86 in the 100 freestyle while junior Kat
Vinson (Kaneohe, HI) was close behind in a time of 54.90. In addition, senior
Barbara Frazier (Placerville, CA) posted a time of 2:29.14 in the 200
breaststroke while sophomore Jordan Scott (Oakville, ON) had a season-best time
of 2:15.42 in the 200 backstroke.
Action continues tomorrow at the Eastern Michigan Natatorium.
