Men’s Golf Team Fourth at MIAA Outing – Fifth in Final MIAA Standings;
Calvin Fall Sports Athletes Gain MIAA Player of the Week Honors
MEN’S GOLF
Calvin took fourth at the final MIAA outing of the year on Monday, posting a team score of 327 strokes. Calvin hosted the outing at the Watermark Country Club. The outing was originally scheduled for October 2 but was postponed because of weather conditions.
Despite the fourth place finish, Calvin remained in fifth place in the final MIAA season standings, 30 strokes behind fourth place Alma.
Hope took first place on Monday with a team score of 306 strokes and in doing so, clinched its fourth consecutive MIAA title and an automatic bid to the NCAA III Championships next spring. Hope’s Matt Lapham finished the season as the MIAA medalist, posting a season average of 71.8 strokes-per-round.
Playing in cold, wet and windy conditions on Monday, Calvin had a solid afternoon led by senior Jeff TenBrink (Kalamazoo Christian HS) who finished with a round of 80. TenBrink also finished 16th in the final MIAA individual standings with an average of 78.0 strokes-per-round. Freshmen Aaron Hargett (Lakewood-Lake Odessa HS) and Jon Kuiper (Grand Rapids Christian HS) both had scores of 82 on Monday with Hargett finishing 17th in the final league standings with an average of 78.8 strokes-per-round. Kuiper finished 25th in the final league standings (80.7).
Rounding out Calvin’s finishers on Monday were freshman Kyle Harvey (Willard, OH) with an 83 and sophomore Brad Tindall (Vicksburg HS) with an 85. Tindall finished tied with Hargett and one other player for 17th place in the final MIAA individual standings with an average of 78.8 strokes-per-round.
Hope’s Nate Golomb was the individual medalist for Monday with a round of 72.

MEN’S SOCCER
For the first time in his collegiate career, Calvin senior Maurice Wright has received MIAA Defensive Player of the Week honors. A native of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and a graduate of Wauwatosa East High School, Wright helped key a pair of Calvin shutout victories this past week as the Knights defeated Olivet 1-0 and Alma 3-0.
With the pair of victories, Calvin improved to 6-5-3 overall and to 4-2-2 in the MIAA. The Knights are at MIAA co-leader Albion on Wednesday. The match will be broadcast through the Albion web site at: http://media.albion.edu/sports
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Calvin College juniors Molly Krikke and Katie Zondervan continue to bring in the season honors.
For the third time this fall, Krikke has been named MIAA Player of the Week and for the second time this year and for the sixth time in her career, Zondervan has been named MIAA Specialty Player of the Week.
Krikke is from Greenwich, Ohio and is a graduate of South Central High School. Krikke averaged five kills and one block a game and hit .364 in the Knights' victory over rival Hope last Friday night.
Zondervan is from Lakewood, California. She is a graduate of Valley Christian High School. A setter, Zondervan averaged 12.75 assists and five digs a game in the Knights' four-game victory over Hope.
Calvin is currently 19-1 overall and 12-0 in the MIAA standings. Ranked 18th nationally, Calvin will host Olivet on Wednesday night. The match will be broadcast through the Calvin web site at: http://www.calvin.edu/sports/ram/calvinsports.ram
