CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER 12, 2006 (PART ONE)
WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM CRACKS TOP 25 NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Calvin women’s soccer team has cracked the Top 25 national rankings in two polls. In this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll, the Knights are ranked 20th. In the most recent D3kicks.com Top-25 poll released this afternoon, the Knights are ranked 18th.
Under the direction of head coach Mark Recker, Calvin has sprinted out to a 4-0-0 record this year, outscoring the opposition 14-3. Calvin’s most recent victory was also its most impressive as the Knights blanked nationally-ranked Ohio Wesleyan 5-0 in a game played at Calvin’s Marvin A. Zuidema Field.
On the men’s side, Calvin has fallen out of the Top 25 rankings in both the NSCAA National poll and in the D3kicks.com poll. However, the Calvin men’s soccer team still received several votes in the D3kicks.com poll and is ranked eighth in the NSCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional poll.

The Calvin women’s soccer team returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to MIAA opponent Albion for a game that will count as a non-conference match. Wednesday’s game will begin at 4:00 p.m. The Calvin men’s soccer team will return to action on Friday night when it competes against Wittenberg University at 5:00 p.m. in a first round game of the Wilmington Kiwanis Classic in Wilmington, Ohio.
