MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD REPORT AT NORTH CENTRAL
LAST-CHANCE MEET
NAPERVILLE, IL * Action continues for Calvin track and field athletes at a last-chance meet hosted by North Central College.
The two-day decathlon competition concluded on Wednesday with junior Eric DeVries (Unity Christian HS) finishing second in a field of 17 competitors with an NCAA III provisional qualifying score of 6, 059 points that was just 19 points shy of her personal-best in the event. Sophomore teammate Kelby McClelland (Mercer, PA) took seventh in the event with a score of 5,826 points.
The breakdown for DeVries on day two of the decathlon was as follows:
*110 high hurdles (16.80)
*Discus (128-5)
*Pole Vault (12-3 ½)
*Javelin (148-4)
*1,500 Meters (4:55.22)
The breakdown for McClelland on day two was as follows:
*110 high hurdles (15.55)
*Discus (104-3)
*Pole Vault (10-8)
*Javelin (26-5)
*1,500 Meters (5:19.21)
In the men's hammer throw on Thursday, sophomore Ryan Jensen (Northview HS) took fourth with a throw of 171-9 while senior Nate Meckes (Bay City) took first in the discus throw with a toss of 177-9.
In the men's 5,000 meter run, sophomore Tad Hulst (Zeeland HS) took seventh with a time of 14:57.78. In the women's 5,000 meter run, freshman Calah Schlabach (St. Michael's, AZ) had a career-best time of 17:59.80 that was good for fifth place. Freshman Anne Fennema () just missed a PR in the race, finishing sixth with a time of 18:07.49.
In the women's throwing events, freshman Ashley Glover (Northview HS) took second in the hammer throw (135-2), just missing a PR in the event while junior Megann VanderVliet (Oakville, ON) was fourth in the discus (130-6).
Action continues today and will conclude late this evening. A full report will be sent out on Saturday.
