MCCLELLAND AND DEVRIES SLOG THROUGH DAY ONE OF DECATHLON AT NC
NAPERVILLE, IL -- Calvin decathletes Kelby McClelland and Eric DeVries slogged
through heavy rains yet still produced solid scores through the first day of
competition of the decathlon at the North Central College multi-event
invitational.
A sophomore, McClelland (Mercer, PA) produced a first day total of 3,256
points.
His breakdown by event was as follows:
100 meter dash: 11.48
Long Jump: 20-1 1/4
Shot Put: 36-0 3/4
High Jump: 5-9 3/4
400 Meters: 51.71 (PR)
McClelland is more than 100 points behind his first day pace of last month when
he competed at the Hillsdale Gina Relays and eventually finished with a two-day
total of 6,028 points.
A junior, DeVries (Unity Christian HS) produced a first day total of 3,112
points. DeVries is just 32 points behind his first day total of last month at
the Hillsdale Gina Relays when he eventually finished with an NCAA III
provisional qualifying score of 6,078 points.
The breakdown for DeVries on Tuesday was as follows:
100 Meters: 11.94
Long Jump: 19-2
Shot Put: 41-8 3/4 (PR)
High Jump: 5-7 1/4
400 Meters: 52.68 (PR)
DeVries is currently in sixth place in a field of 17 competitors while
McClelland is third.
Events left on Wednesday include the 400 meter dash, 110 high hurdles, pole
vault, javelin and 1500 meter run.
