Camille Medema Shatters School Record in 800 Meters at Dr. Keeler

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
NAPERVILLE, IL - A record-setting performance in the 800 meters by senior
Camille Medema highlighted two days of competition at the Dr. Keeler
Invitational at North Central College by members of the Calvin men's and
women's track and field teams this weekend.
A graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Medema shattered her own
school record in the 800 meters, clocking in with an NCAA III automatic
qualifying time of 2:10.31, was more than two seconds better than her previous
school record of 2:12.79 set a year ago. Medema's effort came late Friday
night and was good for third place behind Jenny Irwin of Ferris State (2:08.96)
and North Central's Amber Druin (2:08.56). Druin's time is the fastest in
NCAA III women's track and field this spring while Medema's time is the
second fastest.
Junior Lisa Winkle (South Christian HS) also had a career-best performance in
the long jump on Friday, winning the event with an NCAA III provisional
qualifying mark of 18-6. In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, junior Lydia Singer
(Wilmington, DE) had a season-best and NCAA III provisional qualifying time of
11:03.80.
Sophomore Sarah Wittingen (East Grand Rapids HS) also matched a career-best
time in winning the 400 meter hurdles in 1:02.68. In the 100 meter hurdles,
senior Christine Hendricks (Cincinnati, OH) clocked a collegiate-best and NCAA
III provisional qualifying time of 14.73 that was good for second place.
Sophomore Christina Overbeck (Seattle, WA) also had a career-best time in the
5,000 meters (17:53.47).
In the men's competition, juniors Todd Schuster (Denver, CO) and Tim
Finnegan (Los Alamos, NM) both had NCAA III provisional qualifying times.
Schuster had a provisional qualifying time of 1:53.48 in the 800 meters while
Finnegan had a provisional qualifying time of 14:39.82 in the 5,000 meters. The
time by Finnegan was a season-best while the time by Schuster was a
career-best. An other season-best time was turned in by freshman Brian
Odegaard (Afton, MN) in the 1,500 meters (4:03.42).
