Men's Tennis Closes out MIAA Dual Match Season With Win over Alma;
Men's Golf Fifth at Furniture City Classic
MEN'S TENNIS
(Written by Annalise VenHuizen '08)
Calvin 8, Alma 1
The men's tennis team gained an 8-1 victory over conference opponent Alma
College (6-8) this evening in a match played at Calvin College.
The Knights (14-5) won each contest except for a hard-fought loss in first
singles as senior Rafael Siebenschein (Wuerenlos, Switzerland/Lyndon Christian)
battled from behind to bring the second game into a tie-break situation. His
opponent, Alma's Ahmet Demir, managed to win the match on account of some close
calls in the second game.
Head Coach John Ross was pleased with the Knights efforts and commented that
"Rafael played a good match against a tough opponent." Ross hopes today's
match "prepares the guys to play hard and have a strong showing at the
conference tournament."
The MIAA Championships are scheduled for this weekend in Kalamazoo, beginning
at 8:00 am on Friday, April 29. Calvin stands second in the MIAA with a 5-1
