Calvin Freshman Named MIAA Pitcher of the Week in Baseball
Deters Gets First Win for Lake County Captains

POCOCK NAMED MIAA PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Calvin freshman Nate Pocock (Wayland, Mass./Wayland HS) has been named MIAA
Pitcher of the Week. A righthander, Pockock tossed a six-hit, complete game
shutout victory in a 1-0 win over Olivet last Saturday. Pocock struck out four
batters and walked one in the victory and upped his season record to 4-3 and
his MIAA mark to 4-1. In conference games, Pocock is 4-1 with a 4.65 earned run
average. He has struck out 21 batters in 31 innings of work and walked just
nine.

DETERS GETS FIRST WIN FOR LAKE COUNTY CAPTAINS

HAGERSTOWN, MD - Jim Deters has picked up his first pitching victory for the
Lake County Captains. Deters went six innings on Sunday afternoon in a 6-5 win
over the Hagerstown Suns and departed the game with a 4-2 lead. A 2005
graduate of Calvin and also a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School,
Deters (1-0) struck out three batters and walked one. After allowing two runs
in the first three innings, Deters tossed three consecutive innings of shutout
ball.

In four appearances this year, Deters has a 2.35 earned run average with 22
strikeouts in 23 innings of work. Deters has also issued just two walks for an
impressive walks-to-innings pitched ratio of 0.67. Opponents are also batting
just .242 against him.

The Lake County Captains are a Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians
competing in the South Atlantic (Sally) League. The Captains are located in
Eastlake, Ohio.
