Deters Has Solid Debut for Lake County Captains
MEN’S TENNIS
Wheaton 4, Calvin 3
WHEATON, IL * In a meeting of regionally-ranked teams Friday afternoon, Wheaton came out on top, edging Calvin 4-3. Wheaton entered the match ranked 11th in the Central Region while Calvin was ranked 12th.
Had Friday’s match been a match scored to nine points, Calvin would have gained a 5-4 win but using the NCAA III Tournament pro-sets format, the doubles portion of the match was worth only one point. Calvin swept all three doubles flights but gained just one point for its efforts. Wheaton then took four of the six singles flights to gain the one-point win.
Calvin (9-3 overall) must now turn around on Saturday to travel to the University of Chicago for a mid-morning match. Chicago is ranked eighth in the latest Central Region rankings.
