Softball Splits Pair of Mercy Rule Games;
Tennis Teams Top Titans;

SOFTBALL
Calvin 21, Crown 0
Doane 9, Calvin 0

TUCSON, AZ * Calvin split a pair of mercy rule games on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Crown College (MN) 21-0 and then falling to Doane College (IA) 9-0. Calvin's win over Crown was shortened to five innings while the loss to Doane was limited to six innings.

In the win over Crown College, Calvin (3-2) erupted for eight runs in the top of the first inning and continued to build its lead. Junior Erin Conrad (Calvin Christian HS) led the Knights with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate that included six RBI's and three runs scored. Senior Jeanne Cole (Mason County Eastern HS), sophomore Sam Ehlert (Rockford HS) and freshman Mallory Scholten (Grand Rapids Christian HS) also collected two hits apiece for the Knights.

Freshman Kristin Folkerts (Grand Rapids Christian HS) went the distance for Calvin to improve to 2-0 on the year as she struck out three and walked two. Folkerts is now 2-0 on the year.

The game between Calvin and Doane was scoreless until the top of the fourth when Doane scored six unearned runs and then added three more in the sixth. Doane outhit Calvin 11-4 with junior Ruth Anna Spooner (Twin Falls, ID) taking the loss to fall to 1-2 on the year.

Calvin is back in action on Wednesday when the Knights face William Jewell and Doane for the second time this week.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TENNIS

Both Calvin tennis teams picked up victories over Illinois Wesleyan on Tuesday as the men's team defeated the Titans 6-1 while the women's team defeated Illinois Wesleyan 7-2. The Calvin men are now 4-2 on the year and will face Hamline (MN) and Otterbein (OH) on Wednesday. The Calvin women's team is off until Thursday when it faces 13th-ranked Wellesly College.
