FEB. 8 CALVIN/HOPE MEN'S BASKETBALL GAME PEGGED AS "GAME OF THE MONTH BY DIII NEWS

The monthly publication DIII News has pegged the February 8 men's basketball game between Calvin and Hope as its February "Game of the Month" in its March edition released Monday afternoon. The February 8 contest between the Knights and Flying Dutchmen came down to the final seconds and was decided on a three-point basket by Calvin freshman Caleb Veldhouse with 1.7 seconds left to play, lifting the Knights to a 59-58 victory over the Flying Dutchmen. The victory allowed Calvin to move ahead of Hope in the league standings and eventually claim the outright MIAA regular season crown.

It marks the second time that a Calvin-Hope men's basketball game has been cited as the "Game of the Month" by DIII News as the publication also cited a 82-80 overtime victory by Calvin in February of 2000 as its "Game of the Month" six years ago. In that 2000 game played at the Calvin Fieldhouse, Calvin senior Aaron Winkle banked in a three-point shot in the closing seconds of regulation to send the contest into overtime.
