ANDY DRAAYER AND MARCIA HARRIS RECEIVE MIAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK IN
MEN'S/WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

A pair of Calvin basketball players have received MIAA Player of the Week
honors as senior Andy Draayer has been named MIAA Player of the Week in men's
basketball while freshman Marcia Harris has been named MIAA Co-Player of the
Week in women's basketball.

A native of Denver, Colorado, Draayer is receiving the award for the second in
his career. A graduate of Denver Christian High School, Draayer scored 37
points behind some nifty outside shooting as the Knights posted a pair of
league victories last week. In an 82-67 victory over Alma he scored 16 points
with four three-pointers and in a 90-69 triumph over Adrian scored 21 points
with five three-pointers including a triple from mid-court just before the
first half buzzer.. For the week he shot 13-for-22, including 9-for-15 from
three-point range. He was 2-for-4 on free throws and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Over his last five games, Draayer is shooting 57.1 percent (20 of 35) from
three-point range.

The Calvin men's basketball team (16-5 overall) is currently tied for the
league lead with rival Hope with a 9-1 conference record. The two rivals will
square off Wednesday night at the Calvin Fieldhouse with the opening tip set
for 8:00 p.m. Wednesday's game will feature the 159th meeting between the
two teams in a series that sees Calvin holding an 80-78 series lead.

Harris is receiving MIAA Player of the Week honors for the first time in her
career. She is sharing the award this week with Adrian junior Priscilla
Yeagley. A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian
High School, Harris helped Calvin gain a pair of conference victories last week
as the Knights defeated Albion 71-62 on Wednesday and then toppled St. Mary's
76-64 on Saturday. In the win over Albion, Harris scored 17 points and
followed with a 19-point game behind 8-for-10 shooting in the win over Saint
Mary's. In the pair of games she shot 15-for-24, was 10-for-11 in free throws
and collected seven rebounds. Harris is currently averaging 14.5 points and
5.0 rebounds a game while connecting on 52.7 percent of her field goal
attempts.

The Calvin women's basketball team is currently 18-2 overall and ranked 14th
in the latest D3hoops.com Top-25 poll. The Knights are also 11-1 in league
play, one game behind league-leading Hope (12-0).

Calvin is scheduled to host Tri-State Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. and then journey
to Hope on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
