Swim Teams Drop Non-Conference Dual Meets at Wayne State
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING

DETROIT * The Calvin men's and women's swimming and diving teams dropped a pair of non-conference dual meets on Saturday at Wayne State as the men fell 170-116 while the women were defeated 154-146. The Calvin men are now 2-7 in dual meet competition while the Calvin women are 8-2.
In the men's competition, Calvin took first place in five events with freshman Jack Ryfiak (Grand Rapids Christian HS) leading the way with victories on the one (244.36) and three-meter diving boards (224.45). Senior Luke Bagnall (Marshalltown, IA) was also a winner in the 400 IM (4:27.20) while junior Andrew Resseguie (Holland Christian HS) won the 50 freestyle (22.03). In addition, Calvin's 400 freestyle relay team of sophomore John Boumarden (Naperville, IL), Resseguie, junior Andrew Bolles (West Ottawa HS) and junior Peter Tuuk (Grand Rapids Christian HS) took first place with a time of 3:17.47.
On the women's side, junior Becky Weima (Grand Rapids Christian HS) was a triple-winner, taking first place in the 200 freestyle (1:55.00), 50 freestyle (24.06) and 500 freestyle (5:12.39). Senior Abby Johnson (Grand Haven HS) was a double-winner, taking first place in the 200 backstroke (2:11.43) and 100 butterfly (1:00.18). Junior Alex Wilson (Ellsworth, OH) was also a double-winner, taking first place in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.40) and 400 IM (4:44.82).
Other individual winners included junior Liz Ingebrigtsen (Bensenville, IL) in the 100 freestyle (55.80) and freshman Erica Deur (Holland Christian HS) on the one-meter diving board (248.01).
Calvin's 400 medley relay team of freshman Jordan Scott (Oakville, ON), Wilson, Johnson and Weima led off the meet with a first place time of 4:03.62. The women's meet came down to the final relay however and Wayne State's top relay team was able to edge Calvin's team of sophomore Stephanie Duncan (Long Grove, IL), freshman Julie Wolfe (Westerville, OH), freshman Cara VanWoerkom (Calvin Christian HS) and sophomore Kat Vinson (Kaneohe, HI) by two-tenths of a second to clinch the dual meet victory.
Both Calvin teams return to action next Friday when they compete in non-conference dual meets at Grand Valley State scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
