Women's Basketball Moves Up to #19 In National Rankings;
Calvin Swimmers Rank High On National Lists;
Women's Soccer Players Finish Among NCAA III Statistical Leaders;

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
For the second straight week, the Calvin women's basketball team has cracked
the D3hoops.com Top-25 rankings as the Knights are ranked 19th in this week's
poll. Calvin's ranking is an improvement of five spots from a week ago when
the Knights were ranked 24th.
Calvin is again one of three MIAA teams in the D3hoops.com Top-25 rankings as
Hope is ranked 15th in this week's poll while Albion is ranked 23rd.

Calvin (6-1) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Concordia University
(MI) at 3:00 p.m.
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
Several members of the Calvin women's swimming and diving team are ranked in
the first NCAA III women's swimming and diving performance list.
Calvin junior Becky Weima (Grand Rapids Christian HS) has the nation's top
times in the 50 freestyle (23.97) as well as in the 100 freestyle (52.07) and
200 freestyle (1:52.27). In addition, she has the eighth-best time (5:06.02)
in the 500 freestyle.
In the 200 breaststroke, Calvin junior Alex Wilson (Ellsworth, OH) has the
nation's sixth-best time (2:25.45). On the one-meter diving board, freshman
Erica Deur (Holland Christian HS) has the seventh-best score in a six-dive
competition (256.45).
Two Calvin relays are also ranked high. Calvin's 200 freestyle relay team
of Weima, junior Liz Ingebrigtsen (Bensenville, IL), freshman Cara VanWoerkom
(Calvin Christian HS) and sophomore Kat Vinson (Kaneohe, HI) is ranked fifth
(1:37.29) while its 400 freestyle relay team of sophomore Stephanie Duncan
(Long Grove, IL), Vinson, Ingebrigtsen and Weima is also ranked fifth
(3:34.58).

WOMEN'S SOCCER
The final NCAA III statistics for women's soccer have been released and
Calvin juniors Sarah Weesies (Kalamazoo Christian HS) and Jill Capel (Unity
Christian HS) are ranked among the nation's scoring leaders.
Capel finished 17th nationally in points-per-game average (2.62) while Weesies
finished 20th (2.48). Capel also finished 28th in goals-per-game (1.00) and
24th in assists-per-game (0.62).
As a team, Calvin finished with the nation's four-best scoring offense with
an average of 4.14 goals-per-game. Calvin also finished 18th nationally in
shutout percentage (0.67) and 24th in winning percentage (.810).
Calvin finished the year with a 16-3-2 overall record, capturing a share of
its first MIAA title since 1997 and gaining its first NCAA III Tournament berth
since 1998.
ICE HOCKEY
The Calvin club men's ice hockey team heads into Christmas vacation with an
overall record of 14-2-1. Under the direction of head coach Mike Petrusma, the
Knights are also ranked number-one in the latest ACHA Division III North
Division rankings with rival Hope ranked second.
Calvin's only two defeats were to Division II Davenport (7-3) and Division
II Grand Valley State (5-4). Calvin's 5-4 defeat to Grand Valley on December
3 snapped a 12-game win streak.
Seniors Max Sieplinga (Grand Rapids Christian HS) and Nick VerKuyl (Whitby,
ON) lead the Knights in scoring as Sieplinga has 69 points (35 goals, 34
assists) while VerKuyl has 51 points (29 goals, 22 assists). Sieplinga leads
the national (ACHA DIII) in scoring while VerKuyl is ranked third.
Freshman Lucas Huyser-Wierenga (Edmonton, AB) is also ranked 16th nationally
with 32 points (11 goals, 21 assists).
Calvin sophomore goaltender John Singleton (Highlands Ranch, CO) is also
ranked as the fourth-best goaltender (ACHA DIII). Singleton has a won-loss
record of 8-1-0 with a goals-against-average of 2.70. Singleton has also been
credited with 199 saves for a saves percentage of .888 and has collected two
shutout victories.
Calvin returns to action on January 14 when it faces Muskegon Community
College at the Lakeshore Sports Arena. A handful of Calvin players will also
participate in the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference All-Star game in
Midland on January 7
