CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6TH, 2005
WOMEN'S SOCCER
ALMA- Calvin recorded another shut-out in league play, defeating the Scots of
Alma College 3-0 Thursday evening. The Knights (9-2-1, 8-0 MIAA) have not
allowed a goal in their last seven MIAA match-ups, and have only surrendered
one goal in their eight league victories. Senior goaltender Linda Heilman
(South Christian) has been in goal for each of the seven shut-outs.
Calvin got on the board in the first half during the 28th minute of play when
Calvin was awarded a penalty kick and freshman back Ashley Bolen (Urbana, IL)
was able to burry it into the net for her second goal of the season.
Calvin scored twice in the second half. Senior Kara Zuidema (San Marcos, CA)
banged in a rebound off a shot from junior Jill Capel (Unity Christian) in the
54th minute. For Zuidema, it was her third goal of the season and Capel her
ninth assist. Capel then got her 10th assist on the season, the team lead, by
setting up junior teammate Sarah Weesies (Kalamazoo Christian) for her team
leading 13th goal of the season. Capel and Weesies remain tied for the team
lead in points, with both now having 30 points.
Calvin is now off for the weekend and will return to action Wednesday, October
12th at home against Adrian College, a 4:00pm start.
