GRAND RAPIDS * Calvin's shutout and unbeaten string continued on Saturday afternoon as the Knights secured a 3-0 victory over the visiting Albion Britons.
The victory marked the sixth consecutive shutout victory for the Knights (8-1-1 overall, 7-0-0 MIAA) who ran their unbeaten streak to nine games. Calvin has not allowed a goal in its last 570 minutes of play.
Saturday's game remained scoreless until the Knights erupted for a pair of first half goals in a three-minute span. Freshman Elizabeth Ribbens (Tinley Park, IL) put the Knights on the board in the 25th minute of play with a shot to the far post off a chip pass from junior Laura Rooks (Holland Christian HS). Three minutes later, senior Kara Zuidema (Escondido, CA) did the same, whipping in a shot just inside the far post off a lead pass from junior Jill Capel (Unity Christian HS).
Capel then set up the clincher as she served a ball past Albion goalkeeper Deanna DeRoo through the box right to the feet of Ribbens. Standing on the doorstop, Ribbens tapped a shot into a wide-open net for her fourth goal of the year.
Calvin finished the game with a 22-5 shots at goal advantage including 10-1 in the first half.
Senior goalkeeper Linda Heilman (South Christian HS) collected two saves for Calvin in securing her fifth shutout victory of the year including the 12th of her collegiate career. DeRoo had seven saves in goal for the Britons (3-5-0 overall, 3-3-0 MIAA).
Calvin will now prepare for a rugged non-conference match next Tuesday as it travels to the University of Chicago to take on the 8th-ranked (Top 25) Maroons in a game slated to start at 4:15 p.m. (CST).
