Cross Country Teams Run Well At Notre Dame Invitational

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

SOUTH BEND, IN * The nationally-ranked Calvin men's and women's cross country teams turned in a pair of standout performances in the Gold Division of the prestigious Notre Dame Invitational Friday afternoon.

In the men's race, Calvin took first place with a team score of 45 points, placing three runners in the top 10 and five in the top 20. The finish marked the third consecutive first place performance by the Calvin men's cross country team * ranked number-one in the latest Division III Top-25 poll. Friday's performance was also impressive as the Knights finished more than 100 points ahead of second-ranked (NCAA III) North Central College which placed fifth (157 points).

On the women's side, Calvin took 12th with a team score of 304 points. Ranked 10th in the latest Division III top-25 poll, Calvin was the top Division III finisher. 19th*ranked Wisconsin-Ohskosh took 14th with a team score of 330 points. The University of Michigan took first place with a team score of 60 points.

In the men's race, junior Tim Finnegan (Los Alamos, NM) led the way with a second place finish of 24:44. Calvin's second man was again junior Harrison Jorritsma (Beamsville, ON) as he took fifth with a time of 24:55. Freshman Jed Christiansen (Greenville, PA) also hit the top 10 with a 10th place time of 25:21. Sophomore Jon Gries (King of Prussia, PA) was next for the Knights with a 12th place time of 25:29 while sophomore Tad Hulst (Zeeland HS) closed out Calvin's top five with a 16th place time of 25:35.

Also finishing for the Calvin men on Friday were sophomore Bill Reynolds (Newtown Square, PA) in 31st place (25:53); junior Ben Hammer (Elk Rapids HS) in 39th place (26:00); freshman Nate DeHaan (South Christian HS) in 82nd place (26:30) and freshman Andrew Stutzman (Kutztown, PA) in 88th place (26:33).

In the women's race, senior Camille Medema (Grand Rapids Christian HS) led the Knights with a 27th place time of 18:44. Calvin then featured a tight pack of runners separated by just 18 seconds with junior Lydia Singer (Wilmington, DE) taking 63rd (19:10); junior Laura Holtrop (Rockville, MD) in 65th (19:11); freshman Calah Schlabach (St. Michaels, AZ) in 70th (19:15), senior Linday Rooney (Denver, CO) in 70th (19:22) and sophomore Christina Overbeck (Seattle, WA) in 86th (19:28).

Also running for Calvin were freshman Kelly Edwards (Grand Blanc HS) in 115th place (19:55), freshman Laura Jackson (Decatur, IL) in 127th () and freshman Emily Arkus (Tinley Park, IL) in 139th (20:21).
