CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER 20, 2005

WOMEN'S SOCCER

KALAMAZOO - Junior Sarah Weesies (Kalamazoo Christian) scored her ninth and
tenth goals of the season as Calvin moved 4-0 in the MIAA by beating Kalamazoo
College 4-0 Tuesday afternoon. With the victory, Calvin remains tied for first
place in the MIAA standings with rival Hope which also moved to 4-0 in the
league with a 4-0 win over Alma Tuesday.

Senior goalkeeper Linda Heilman (South Christian) posted her third straight
shut-out for Calvin as the team has out-scored their opponents 18-0 in the
three games. Heilman made four saves for the victory as Calvin out-shot
Kalamazoo 27-6.

Weesies scored the first goal of the game off a pass from senior Kara Zuidema
in the box in the 22nd minute. Weesies added her second goal, this time off a
through pass from junior Jill Capel (Unity Christian) in the 42nd minute. The
assist was Capel's fifth of the season. Less than three minutes later, with
only 58 seconds to go in the half, freshman Michelle Koele (Denver, CO) netted
her first goal of the season, an unassisted shot inside the box to put Calvin
up 3-0 at the half.

The second half was scoreless until freshman Lauren Bergstrom (Rochester, MN)
scored her first goal of the season with only 30 seconds left to play.
Freshman Elizabeth Ribbens (Tinley Park, IL) picked up the assist with a cross
pass to Bergstrom.

Now ranked fifth in the Great Lakes Region, Calvin (5-1-1 overall) returns to
action on Saturday against St. Mary's, a noon start at Calvin Field.

MEN'S SOCCER

The Calvin men's soccer team has moved up two spots in the latest set of
national rankings as the Knights are ranked 11th in this week's Division III
top-25 poll conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Chris Hughes, the Knights have
been ranked in every national poll conducted during the 2005 season.

In addition, the Knights remain ranked second in the latest set of Great Lakes
Regional rankings with Ohio Wesleyan ranked first.

WOMEN'S GOLF

MARSHALL - Calvin posted an eighth place team score of 404 strokes at MIAA
Outing #2. The outing was hosted by Olivet at the Medalist Golf Club Tuesday
afternoon. Host Olivet took first place with a team score of 338 strokes
followed by St. Mary's in second with a team score of 346.

St. Mary's continues to hold first place in the overall team standings, nine
strokes ahead of Olivet. Calvin remains in eighth place, 42 strokes ahead of
Adrian and 32 strokes behind seventh place Tri-State.

Calvin's top individual finisher on Tuesday was senior Margaret Tassaro
(Carnegie, PA) who fired a round of 86 that was good for a tie for ninth place.
 Senior Annie Huizenga (Unity Christian HS) was next with a round of 89 that
was good for a 13th place tie. Rounding out Calvin's finishers were junior
Abby Stemler (Elk River, MN) with a round of 107, freshman Katelyn Farrell
(Lakeview HS) with a round of 122 and freshman Juanita Gibson (Detroit
Renaissance HS) with a round of 126.
 
The women's golf team returns to action on Saturday when it competes at MIAA
Outing #3. The outing will be hosted by Adrian at the Lenawee Country Club
beginning at 1:00 p.m.
