MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

WAVERLY, IA * The awards keep rolling in for Calvin track and field coach
Dr. Jong-Il Kim.

On Wednesday night , Kim was named Division III Women's National Coach of
the Year by the United States Track and Field Coaches Association at an awards
banquet hosted by Wartburg College * site of the 2005 NCAA III Outdoor Track
and Field Championships.

It marks the third time in four years that Kim has been named Division III
National Coach of the Year in women's track and field and it also marks his
fourth national coach of the year award as he was also selected as the Division
III Men's Coach of the Year in 2003.

A native of Jin-Cheon, South Korea, Kim is the only coach in Calvin history
to be selected National Coach of the Year four times. He is the third coach to
receive national coach of the Year honors during the 2004-05 academic year as
Calvin men's cross country coaches Brian Diemer and Al Hoekstra were named
Division III co-Coaches of the Year this past fall.

In addition, Kim was named the women's Great Lakes Regional Coach of the
Year for the fourth straight year by the USTCA.

Two Calvin athletes were also named Great Lakes Regional Athletes of the Year
on Wednesday night as senior Sue Abbring was named the Great Lakes Women's
Athlete of the Year while junior Nate Meckes received the Great Lakes Men's
Athlete of the Year award.

Abbring is from Schereville, Indiana, and is a graduate of Illiana Christian
High School. She is receiving the honor for the second straight year. She is
scheduled to compete in the 200 meters, 400 meters and in the 4x400 meter relay
at the NCAA III Championships scheduled to open Thursday afternoon. Abbring is
the top seed in the 200 meters, is the second seed in the 400 meters and is a
part of Calvin's top-seeded 4x400 meter relay team.

Meckes is from Bay City and is a graduate of Westland Lutheran High School.
He is also receiving the award for the second time in his career as he was so
honored in 2003. Meckes is scheduled to compete in the shot put and discus
