Calvin Ninth in Latest United States Sports Academy Director's Cup Standings

Calvin College is once again among the nation's leaders in the annual
Director's Cup chase.

Sponsored by the United States Sports Academy, the Director's Cup competition
is held at the NCAA I, II and III levels as well as for NAIA schools.

The standings are based on points earned by teams that compete in NCAA and
NAIA Championship events and is presented annually by the National Association
of Collegiate Director's of Athletics (NACDA) to the best overall collegiate
athletics program in the country.

After the recently completed fall sports season, Calvin is ninth with a total

of 200 points. The fall sports standings include the sports of men's and
women's cross country, women's field hockey, football, men's and women's
soccer
and women's volleyball.

Calvin was able to build its point total on the performance of its men's
cross
country team, its women's volleyball team and men's soccer team at the
NCAA III Championships this past November as the men's cross country team
captured its second consecutive national championship to earn 100 Director's
Cup points while the women's volleyball and men's soccer teams reached the
second round of their respective NCAA III Tournaments to earn 50 points
apiece.

Defending Director's Cup champion Williams of Massachusetts once again leads
the standings as the Ephs have a total of 412 points and hold a 149 point lead

over second place Wisconsin-LaCrosse

Last year, Calvin finished 23rd in the final Director's Cup standings with
382.5 points to finish in the top 25 for the ninth consecutive year.
Since the Director's Cup was initiated at the NCAA Division III level for
the 1995-96 academic year, Calvin is one of only nine schools to finish in the

top-25 all nine previous years. Joining Calvin in the group are Williams,
College of New Jersey, Amherst (MA), Middlebury (VT), Ithaca (NY),
Wisconsin-LaCrosse, SUNY-Cortland and Emory (Ga.).

A complete list of the current standings is available on the NACDA web site
