win after dominating Grace Bible College, 84-35, in the first round of
the Calvin Tip-Off Tournament.

Eastern
knocked out Philadelphia Bible in the first game, 63-57.

Calvin caught the tip-off, but Grace Bible fought hard and managed to
score the first basket of the game. The Knights pulled a 10-2 run in
the beginning of the first half, giving the Knights a ten-point lead.
Calvin took another 11 consecutive points, rolling into halftime,
38-21.

Calvin took a commanding 49-point lead in the second half. The Knights'
defense held Grace Bible to a mere 14-points, allowing only three
buckets.

"We had quality play from a lot of people," said head coach Kevin Vande
Streek. "We had a lot of depth."

Senior Dan Aultman [Ludington] lead the Knights with 13 points, and five
rebounds. Junior Andy Draayer [Denver, Co.] tallied up eleven points
and six rebounds while freshman Todd Koetsier [Grandville] and Josh
Meckes [Bay City] chipped in ten points and six rebounds a piece.

The Knights out-rebounded Grace Bible 50-32 and forced 31 turnovers.
Grace's 66.7% free throw percentage made them the only team in the
tournament to break 50% from the line.

"I'm excited," said Vande Streek. "I thought we played really hard."

Philadelphia Bible and Grace Bible tip off tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
Eastern and Calvin meet in the championship game at 3:00 p.m. in the

GAME ONE RECAP (Written by Annalize VenHuizen '08)

Eastern University (PA) d. Philadelphia Bible College 63-57

In the opening game of the Men's Basketball Tip-off Tournament at Calvin
College, Eastern University (PA) defeated Philadelphia Bible College in an
intense game.

Eastern grabbed the first shot of the game, but the Eagles followed quickly.
The Eagles passed Eastern at four points, keeping a lead until the 8:53 mark
when Eastern pulled ahead off a three pointer by Brent Vorhees. From then on,
Eastern never looked back. At the end of the half, Eastern had a 9 point lead,
the score 37-26.

Eastern went strong into the second-half, keeping the Eagles at least
three-points away. The Eagles made a strong effort, coming from 11 points
behind (44-33) with 13:18 left on the clock, to only 3 points down (50-47) at
the 4:57 mark. But they couldn't stop the Eastern offense. Eastern held
onto the lead, and defeated the Eagles 63-57.

Eastern forward Brent Voorhees had a game-high 25 points, while teammate guard
Christ McMonagle scored 10. Voorhees also grabbed 16 rebounds, and teammate
Ryan Tozer had 7.

Colon who scored 10. Coleman had 12 rebounds, and following him was forward
Bryndon Mumford with 8 and forward Brian Miller who had 6.

The 25-point effort was a sweet one for Voorhees as he is making a West
Michigan homecoming this weekend. Voorhees is from Grandville and is a
graduate of Wyoming Tri-unity Christian High School
