CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR OCTOBER 13, 2004

WOMEN'S SOCCER

ALBION - Calvin extended its unbeaten streak to eight games and remained on
top of the MIAA women's soccer standings with a 4-2 victory at Albion College
Wednesday afternoon.

Calvin (9-4-1 overall) has now won six straight games and remains two points
ahead of Hope (7-1-2 MIAA) in the league standings as the Knights are currently
8-1-1 in conference play.

In Wednesday's game against the host Britons, Calvin once again rode the
dynamic scoring duo of sophomores Jill Capel (Unity Christian HS) and Sarah
Weesies (Kalamazoo Christian HS) to victory. Capel picked up her team-leading
15th goal of the year in the win while also notching a pair of assists to bring
her team-leading total to 11. Weesies scored two goals and gained an assist to
bring her season totals to 11 goals and seven assists.

Junior Kara Zuidema (Escondido, CA) also got into the scoring act with her
sixth goal of the season. Zuidema's tally gave Calvin a 1-0 lead 11 minutes
into the match but Albion (5-7-2 overall, 5-3-2 MIAA) came back to tie the
score on an unassisted goal by Karen LaFlair 10 minutes later

The Knights then struck for two goals inside the final 15 minutes of the first
half with Capel heading in a shot off a feed from Weesies in the 35th minute
and Weesies scoring shortly after. The unassisted goal by Weesies came with
just 4:23 left in the half and allowed Calvin to take a 3-1 halftime lead.

Albion crept to within one on a goal by Ashley Rosaen with 25 minutes left in
regulation but Weesies followed with her second goal of the game, converting a
feed from Capel with 14:49 left on the clock. The goal by Weesies would prove
to be the clincher as the Knights held on for the two-goal win.

Calvin finished the match with a 20-7 shots at goal advantage. Junior
goaltender Linda Heilman (South Christian HS) had three saves in goal for the
Knights while Deanna DeRoo had 10 saves for the Britons.

The final outcome was a reversal of the first meeting of the year between the
two teams as Albion had recorded a 5-3 victory over Calvin back on September
15. Since that defeat, Calvin has ripped off its current eight-game unbeaten
streak.

Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it plays host to Olivet at noon at
Calvin Field. The game will be aired via a RealAudio broadcast on the Calvin
web site at: www.Calvin.edu/sports
