CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR MONDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2004
WOMEN'S SOCCER
For the second time in her career, Calvin sophomore Leah Scholten has been
named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week. A native of Hudsonville and a
graduate of Unity Christian High School, Scholten has served primarily in a
midfielder's role this fall after playing a marking back position on defense a
year ago.
Scholten has been a strong two-way player for the Knights this fall, scoring
two goals and notching seven assists.
Scholten helped Calvin pick up back-to-back shutout victories last week as the
Knights topped Adrian 8-0 and Alma 5-0. Scholten had a goal and an assist in
both games.
Calvin is currently 8-4-1 overall and in sole possession of first place in the
MIAA standings with a 7-1-1 conference mark. The Knights are currently riding
a five-game win streak and a seven-game unbeaten streak. Calvin returns to
action on Wednesday when it travels to Albion for a 4:00 p.m. contest. Albion
is the last team to defeat Calvin as the Britons handed the Knights a 5-3
defeat on September 15.
