NCAA III MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS
ST. JOSEPH'S, MO * For the first time in his career, Calvin junior Peter Boumgarden has earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 200 IM at the NCAA III Championships. Seeded 35th in the event heading into the morning prelims, Boumgarden reached Thursday's consolation finals with a season-best time of 1:53.92 which ranked as the 15th-best time of the morning prelims.
A native of Naperville, Illinois, Boumgarden then took 15th in Thursday's finals with a time of 1:54.55.
Boumgarden's honorable mention All-America performance allowed Calvin to move into 34th place with a team score of two points after one day of competition.
Boumgarden is scheduled to compete in the 100 butterfly for Calvin on Friday and in the 200 butterfly on Saturday. He is seeded eighth in the 100 butterfly and is a two-time All-American in the event.
Calvin is one of four MIAA schools represented at the national meet. Hope is currently 13th with 27 points, Kalamazoo 17th with 18 points and Albion 27th with eight points.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
Calvin dropped an MIAA contest at Albion Thursday, falling 7-2 to the host Britons. The Knights are now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the MIAA. Calvin scored its points at fourth and sixth singles. At No. 6, , sophomore Kim Bosscher (Calvin Christian HS) rallied from a 6-1, 4-1 deficit for the three-set decision. Calvin's win at No. 4 singles came from freshman Allyson Logan (Fort Wayne, IN).
Calvin returns to action next Monday when it opens its spring trip in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
