CALVIN SPORTS REPORT PART TWO FOR JANUARY 17, 2004

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

ALMA -- The Calvin men's and women's swimming and diving teams picked up MIAA
dual meet victories at Alma Saturday afternoon as the Calvin men topped the
host Scots 94-83 while the Calvin women were victorious 149.5-93.5.

The Calvin men are now 3-4 overall in dual meet competition including 3-1
against MIAA teams while the Calvin women are 6-2 overall and 4-1 against MIAA
opponents.

In the men's competition Saturday, junior Peter Boumgarden (Naperville, IL)
picked up victories in teh 1,000 freestyle (10:50:06) and 100 butterfly
(53.67). Senior Brad White (Traverse City) was also a double-winner, claiming
victories in the 200 freestyle (1:46.42) and 100 backstroke (54.95). Other
individual winners for the Calvin men included sophomore Luke Bagnall
(Marshalltown, IA) in the 400 IM (4:27.38), freshman Peter Tuuk (Grand Rapids
Christian HS) in the 100 freestyle (50.07) and junior Ryan Preston (Richmond,
IN) in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.13). Calvin's 200 medley relay team of
Herrema, Boumgarden, junior Peter Daining (Grand Rapids Christian HS) and
freshman Andrew Bolles (West Ottawa HS) also clocked in with a first place time
of 1:47.24.

In the women's meet, Calvin came up with two pool records and one school
record. Freshman Rebekah Weima (Grand Rapids Christian HS) picked up a pool
record in winning the 50 freestyle (24.53) and a school record in winning the
500 freestyle with an NCAA III conditional qualifying time of 5:10.67, breaking
her own school mark in the event by more than three seconds.

Sophomore Abby Johnson (Grand Haven HS) also had a pair of strong swims as she
took first place in the 400 IM (4:44.33) and in the 100 backstroke (1:03.20).
Her time in the 400 IM was a new Alma pool record. Freshman Alex Wilson also
had an outstanding day, taking first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.47)
and second in the 400 IM (4:55.90).

Perhaps the best performance for the Knights however, came on the one and
three-meter diving boards as senior Sara TerHaar (Bradenton, FL) swept both
events, winning with respective scores of 219.40 and 246.35. Her performance
on the three-meter board was an NCAA III qualifying performance.

Calvin's 200 medley relay team of Johnson, senior Brittney Stevens (Mankato,
MN), freshman Barbara Frazier (Placerville, CA) and freshman Liz Ingebrigtsen
(Bensenville, IL) also took first place with a time of 1:58.00.

Both teams return to action next Friday when they compete in non-conference
dual meets hosted by Grand Valley State University.
